Gung Hai Fat Choy! Happy New Year. Based on the lunar calendar, this year's Chinese New Year begins February 18th. It will be the year of the pig. Because of the culture's agricultural roots, in China, if a family has pigs, they are doing well. They have food to eat. Pigs are strong but they like to play too. This year should prove to be a strong year financially for us all and we should be able to find some time to play! That is good news!

The New Year holiday celebration is a time to celebrate everyone's birthday. Individual birthdays are not celebrated during the year. Instead everyone gains a year at the New Year. Children are given lucky money, money in pretty red envelopes. We went from $1 to $5 in my childhood. Growing up, we would visit relatives and bring a bag of oranges for good luck. We'd leave with a different bag of oranges from the family we visited. My dad who lives here in the U.S., prefers to go by the Chinese tradition. It gives him a longer length of time to end his years in a 9 vs. a 0 . It is one of the biggest holidays celebrated with family and friends; lots of tradition, symbolic foods prepared days in advance, rituals and fireworks everywhere for day. If you'd like an excuse to start again for 2007, try 4705. Put on the red for good luck, eat lots of long noodles for long life, pork for strength, fish for wealth, chicken for good luck, rice for plenty and vegetables for the soul. Eat slow and enjoy!

Constellation Brands Inc., a distributor and marketer of beverages, chose UltraGlas, a unique style of glass to screen their walls, doors, and entry ways. The UltraSea cast and embossed texture mimics the visual qualities of water - beverages while fulfilling the architectural glass needs. Form and function. UltraGlas is plate glass which when heated to its softening point falls or slumps into a mold which is sculpted with texture. This three dimensional glass is so dynamic, that the texture itself can be the design. Above you will see the entry way and a glimpse of the board room featuring this beautiful calming textured glass. The glass walls making up the entry way provide a soft lucid feeling as you gaze through into the main reception area. As you enter through the set of double doors molded in UltraSea, a hand chipped glass sign created by Gong Glass Works identifies the lobby with Canandaigua Brands Inc.'s corporate logo.

UltraGlas UltraSea provides a sense of privacy without the feeling of being totally closed off. This refreshing and tranquil style of textured glass mimics the feeling of water by diffusing light. True to the studio principles with an artist's eye, each and every panel of UltraSea was rotated and repositioned so the texture was installed in its most favored position. That extra care is one reason why Gong Glass Works' knowledge and experience in UltraGlas design and production make Gong Glass Works a favored distributor for UltraGlas, the innovative leader in cast plate glass.

Second generation, for the third time. A hand chipped and etched corporate sign. The first was made with a previous company logo. The second was made with the new and current corporate logo for headquarters at a different location. The second art glass sign was then moved to the new corporate offices.
Ok, so our heat wave is 20 degrees after a week of 10 degree days. Spring is around the corner, so sit tight, just a little more cool weather. I'm very pleased the studio is not in Oswego, NY where they're shoveling 4' of snow off their roofs! I'm quite warm working on "The Beach" and "The Bay" for Garcia's Restaurant in TX the next while. Looking forward to my deep sea fishing excursion with the Marlin and Tarpon designs. More later. Thank you Stanford and Laura for liking the chipped texture which require that I turn the heat up in the studio!

Let me know if I can be of assistance to you with any of your art glass projects. And please, do share this newsletter with your friends and colleagues. Thank you all for the exciting projects you help to bring my way.
