ARTIST'S BACKGROUND

About Nancy

Nancy Gong is an accomplished US glass artist, with world-wide recognition in contemporary architectural glass art.

Her focus is on large and small commissioned work, including installations, fine art designs, sculptures, donor walls, gifts and awards since 1979. She is a first generation, American born Chinese. Her designs embrace traditional techniques of stained glass craftsmen and stone carvers, combined with new materials, fusing, laminating and other new and emerging technologies. Nancy has mastered her own style of creating texture and painting. Her glass artwork depicts various levels of contrast using striking color, motion and spontaneity. As the ever-changing light plays against her integrated design elements, she is able to create unique living, breathing works of art, beckoning the viewer to see and experience something new and fresh with every passing look. Each chosen approach to her designs marry her signature etched textured glass with free-flowing modern designs that echo the spirit, energy and beauty of living things.

Nancy continues to keep her work fresh, with a unique insight to the use of her materials, new technologies when appropriate, and personalized design research. In response to each individual commission, the scope of her work is wide, yet authentic for the purpose. Her glass art installations can be found in public places, institutions, corporations and homes around the world! Her sculptures and fine art glass designs are acquired for private collections throughout the world, and are often presented as special gifts.

Inspired by Wasily Kandinsky, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder and Phillip Stark to name a few, Nancy Gong is a gifted and recognized artist in the US and abroad. NANCY GONG

Artist’s Statement

The energy and spirit of living things has always been at the core of my work. Inspired by the temperament of East Asian cultural aesthetics, lyrical abstractions of nature come to life through the use of line, color, texture, balance, dimension and the silent beauty of glass. By combining traditional stained glass and stone carving techniques with contemporary glass forming processes, it is my intention for the art to bring the human spirit and nature together to create a sense of balance in our hectic everyday lives with the ultimate goal of making a connection between the human spirit and the built environment. The art depicts various elements of transition and contrast, motion, spontaneity and sometimes striking color to remind us of fleeting moments.

As the ever-changing light interacts with the design, I create unique living, breathing works of art capturing the ethereal, fluid and rejuvenating qualities of life through gentle gestures and transitions displaying a range of personalities from two-dimensional glass. These free-flowing modern designs lead the viewer to their own conscious or subconscious visceral journeys echoing the spirit, energy and beauty of living things and special places with something different to see and experience with every changing view.

I am always open to exciting, one of a kind contemporary art glass commissions. Let’s talk.
